Tarja Suhonen joins Cerenion as a clinical specialist
Tarja Suhonen, a registered nurse with almost 17 years of experience from working in the intensive care environment, joins Cerenion to boost our clinical expertise.
Tarja is a Bachelor of Nursing from Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, and has completed a specialization program in nephrological nursing with Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Now she is finalizing her Master of Health Care studies in Turku University of Applied Sciences. All through her studies Tarja has also worked at the Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) in positions such as Intensive Care Nurse and Clinical Research Coordinator.
Tarja came to Cerenion to finish her Master’s thesis as part of her Master of Health Care degree under the supervision of Dr. Jukka Kortelainen.
"In 2020, after working 15 years as an ICU nurse, I wanted to broaden my horizons and started Master-level studies in health tech at the Turku University of Applied Sciences", says Tarja. The program she chose was multidisciplinary including students from both health care and technology backgrounds. "Having worked in a technology-heavy unit for more than a decade, the human-machine interaction was one of my areas of deep interest", she says.
The thesis project at Cerenion included initiating a trial use period of the Bittium BrainStatus™ with Cerenion C-Trend® EEG monitor at the ICU of Meilahti Hospital and collecting survey data on the perceived usability in the clinical setting.
"As the project proceeded, it became evident that neuromonitoring in the ICU is an area of growing opportunities both in the intensive care community as a whole, and also for me on a personal level of professional growth", continues Tarja.
After the successful completion of the study subject recruitment part of her thesis, Tarja decided that it was time for a career leap forward and joined Cerenion. As a clinical specialist at Cerenion Tarja will continue with education and support of end users and participation with ongoing R&D projects.
"I really look forward to serve both the health care professionals and the patients they care for, helping them achieve better outcomes through neuromonitoring", Tarja concludes.
